  18. You cannot run CHKDSK while at a command prompt unless you are logged on as
  19. administrator or have administrative rights.

  24. This behavior is by design. If you try to run CHKDSK and do not have
  25. administrative rights, an "Access Denied" message appears.
  26.  
  27. CHKDSK uses DASD (Direct Access Storage Device) to access a volume and is
  28. reserved to system administrators for security reasons. Opening a volume
  29. for DASD access bypasses the file system thereby allowing you to directly
  30. access (and change) the disk.

  32. If you want to run CHKDSK, log on as Administrator or as any user that is a
  33. member of the Administrators group.
